FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How did you come up with PLAY Method?
So many other piano lessons are as complicated as they have always been.
Instead of starting out with tradition, we started by asking many questions including:
  • "With computers, television, printers, video games all in color, why is sheet music
  • still in black and white?
  • "How can we integrate color to make music understanding easier?
  • "Why is reading the sheet music so difficult?"
  • "How can we make reading sheet music as easy as possible?"
  • "Is there any way to make a program that would be fast and easy to learn?"
  • "What makes music take so long to understand?"
And over time, this method developed and evolved.

How is PLAY different?
If you read the ABOUT section on the site, you will see a detailed booklet about PLAY.
But the first thing you will notice is that there is a color template for the keyboard. This is
designed to help you find the notes easier. Next you will see that the sheet music looks
different. It is read top to bottom, instead of left and right. Music notes are oval shapes
instead of traditional shapes. Instead of two grouping of lines (called staff lines) for left
and right hand playing, we have merged them into one big staff called the "grand staff".
And the most important thing is that everything is color-coded. The keyboard and sheet
music match, so that it is one easy to follow method.

What do I need to get started?
You need a piano, or electric keyboard and color printer. Start by printing out (for free)
the QUICKSTART, from the website. If you don’t have a piano or keyboard, you can buy
an inexpensive electronic one on Amazon or other sites or a used one on EBay. There
is no need to purchase an expensive keyboard, until you are sure you like playing.

Is that it?
That’s it! You will start playing songs within 5 minutes!

Then what?
You can go to the Song Library for a full selection of songs to play. Additional lessons
and our line of products including PIANO IN A BOX are not yet on the site or available at
retailers.

What is PIANO IN A BOX?
PIANO IN A BOX, is a product we have prototyped and hope to launch in 2009. It is a
complete package containing everything to get started, including a roll-up piano with
printed keyboard template, books, carrying case, headset and other accessories. It will
be a perfect gift packed into a box smaller than a shoe box.

What other products will you offer?
We have created a full line of products including: PLAY books for Beginners, Advanced
players and Teachers. We will also offer downloads of lessons and sheet music, and
PLAY Premiere, a monthly web subscription program offering online tutorials, bonus
songs, special promotions, and other products for subscribers.

If I own a piano already do I need to purchase the PLAY piano in a box?
No. If you own a piano or keyboard, then you don’t need to purchase it. However, the
Piano in a Box is a great practice piano. It rolls up and can be taken anywhere. It also
comes with headphones so you can practice without disturbing anyone.

Do the web features work the same way as the printed products?
Yes, our website will launch with everything you need to play the piano in minutes. The
QUICKSTART is only available on line and is free for anyone to try. Our growing library
of sheet music downloads will be customizable so that as you get better at the method,
you can actually change the configuration of any song in the library and print more
advanced versions of these same songs with the click of a mouse. And instead of
owning a lot of books with songs you might not need, or want, the PLAYmethod.com
website will allow each member of a family to build and develop a library of songs to
demo beforehand, store to a personal library. We take requests on new songs to add.

PLAY sheet music looks different than regular music. Why?
We have completely revised sheet music to add colors, ovals of different lengths to
indicate how long to hold the note for. And we start students at the top of the page and
they play downward. All of these are done for a reason – to make it easier to begin and
connect the keyboard, fingers and sheet music together.

What’s the Song Library?

You can get PLAY sheet music from our website. And eventually you can save it in your
own personal library to print it again and again. As you advance with the method, you
can even change the look and features of the music and print the songs out again. Also,
we are going to team up with a popular digital sheet music website and you will be able
to have access to tens of thousands of songs in PLAY "notation".

I eventually want to read and play "regular" sheet music. Will this be possible?
YES. While PLAY is a program that is designed to have people playing piano in
minutes, it is also designed to have students move on to reading and playing music that
has been around for ages. For instance, while progressing through the lessons, the
ovals are replaced with standard music shapes. The entire page can be turned so that
instead of reading top down, students will read left to right. Colors will be replaced by
black and white notes. And before long, the student realizes he/she is able to read and
play "standard notation".

How can you teach me to play in minutes when other methods take years?
The key is in our patent pending unique notation and matching template. PLAY Method
is so easy to read, that it is more like the games Guitar Hero or Rock Band then it is
piano lessons. You play those games quickly and with little direction, but the only
difference is that when done, you are really playing the piano, not a game. PLAY Method
is amazingly simple and fun. And the experience makes you want to play more. Try it
and see that we are absolutely the only "real" piano learning method that can have you
playing piano within 5 minutes. Guaranteed!
